Like the Tour du Mont Blanc this is another must do classic in the Alps. In full it's a 10 day trek (2 weeks with travel and rest days) from Chamonix to Zermatt. Zermatt is one of Switzerland’s most chic and famous mountain resorts and lies at the foot of the equally famous Matterhorn.  Connecting the two is a spine of Europe’s highest and most impressive mountains and the walk between the two is known as the Haute Route - The High Route. There are two versions, one that traverses the glaciers and needs to be lead by a qualified mountain guide, and a second less technical walking version that contours the slopes below the glaciers.

Getting there - Chamonix is 1h 15 mins transfer from Geneva Airport and Zermatt is approximately 3 hours from Geneva Airport, or 2 hours back to Chamonix.

Accommodation
 - If taking the higher glacier route we would use catered mountain refuges and hotels. On the walkers version camping would also be an option.

Best suited to
 - For the walkers version anyone one who enjoys a good day’s walk in the mountains and has a reasonable level of fitness. For the glacier version trekking experience with crampons would be beneficial. A heavier backpack will need to carried too as there can be no baggage support to mountain refuges.
